Doing the kind of work we like to do requires lots of advanced equipment. Fortunately, we got off to a very good start at the beginning of 1994 with a very large donation of equipment from the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, New York.
This gift includes several workstation, personal, and realtime computers, three IBM SCARA (Selective Compliance Assembly Robot Arm) robots, a Unimation PUMA 560 robot, a two-arm IBM cleanroom electric cartesian robot, several machine vision systems, planar motion systems and several micro-robots including two IBM Fine Positioners and four IBM Magic Wrists. Test equipment includes a number of high-speed digital oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzer, structural dynamics analyzer, and two laser interferometers.
Several other Sun Microsystems and Silicon Graphics UNIX workstations, personal computers, and real-time computer systems are available within the laboratory.
Available software includes ProEngineer and SolidWorks modellers, Tango and Protel circuit board design packages, Working Model 2D and 3D, various graphics packages, and VxWorks, LynxOS, and QNX realtime operating systems.
Other laboratory equipment of note includes NRC precision linear and rotary actuators, a General Scanning galvanometer stage, Aerotech linear and rotary stages, Compumotor closed-loop rotary step motors, HP 6034A Programmable Power Supply, HP 3314A Function Generator, Wavetek 859 Pulse Generator, Wavetek 186 Phaselock Generator, Wavetek 166 Wave Generator, Acoustic Power Systems Electro-seis 124, Fluke 8520A precision digital multimeter, PAR 5104 and SRS SR530 Lockin Amplifiers, Data Precision 6000 High Speed Oscilloscope, MTI 1000 Fotonic Sensor, Sundstrand servo accelerometer, JR3 4-axis and 6-axis force/torque Sensors, Sartorius digital scale, HP 4192A Impedance Analyzer, Bell 615 gauss meter, and Draper Laboratory instrumented remote center compliance,
